Hello! Welcome to my English Literature capstone ePortfolio website! I’m glad you are here. My name is Lauren Wilson, I am a senior English Literature major at Pacific Lutheran University with a passion to learn and pass on that passion to students in the future. I grew up in Olympia, WA and have had a desire to teach the subject of English since my seventh grade language arts class. Ever since I was a young middle-school-student, literature has continually taught me about the ever-changing world we live in, and most importantly, it has made me a better citizen of it.
In addition to my studies in Literature, I have two minors: one in Writing and one in Communications. Aside from academics, I’ve been fortunate to be a two sport student athlete at PLU, competing for the women’s volleyball team in the fall and in the high jump for the women’s track and field team in the spring. Competing in sports at the collegiate level has given me the privilege to meet people from all over with different backgrounds, stories, and perspectives. Literature closely relates to sports in that way: I find it amazing that if we critically dive into a piece of writing, we can uncover many life lessons or new perspectives that one (usually) can’t find at a surface level.
Literature gives us a foundation to learn about injustices in the world and actively act on them by either individually applying what we’ve learned to our own lives, or by passing on this knowledge to others. As an aspiring teacher, I aim to do the latter. Through my portfolio, I invite you to see the way literature has shaped my learning, my thinking, and quite honestly, my life as a whole.
